CareCloud Joins CommonWell Health Alliance to Improve Interoperability

2023-01-31T04:37:06-06:00

CareCloud is proud to announce that it has become one of the newest members of CommonWell Health Alliance. Albert Santalo, CareCloud CEO and Founder, explains why this unprecedented level of vendor cooperation can benefit physicians, move the health IT industry forward and ultimately secure better outcomes for patients. Q: Why did CareCloud join CommonWell Health Alliance?   A: From day one, CareCloud has advocated for openness in healthcare generally and among its technology vendors specifically. We believe that data liquidity – centered on the needs of patients – is essential for improving care coordination and efficiency. Therefore, we were excited when CommonWell Health Alliance was founded and knew that it made sense for us to take part. Q: How will CareCloud’s clients benefit? A: Our participation in CommonWell means that CareCloud [...]

CommonWell Moves Forward with Nationwide Expansion of Services

2023-01-31T04:37:06-06:00

Today is an exciting day at CommonWell Health Alliance. If you haven’t seen yet, we announced another chapter in our fast-paced progress towards improving health information technology (HIT) interoperability – the nationwide availability of our services. After our successful initial launch in four geographies, now our members can focus on expanding their CommonWell service offerings to their clients across the U.S. In fact, some of our member companies have already begun deploying CommonWell Services at provider sites in Florida, Massachusetts and Washington. We hope you will read about this on the press release issued today.

CommonWell’s Commitment to our Industry, our Members, and their Providers and Patients

2023-01-31T04:37:07-06:00

Anyone and everyone can talk interoperability, but CommonWell Health Alliance members are all committed to building interoperability into their software so that providers can work seamlessly within their existing workflow. Members have made tangible headway on that effort by focusing on four initial services that facilitate exchange:  identity management, record locator, consent management and trusted data access. The notion that CommonWell would “sell data” is absurd, but especially inaccurate in light of our focus on these services.  CommonWell places the highest importance on patient privacy and security. We have not and will not ever sell personal health data. That is not what we’re about. In fact, our model is such that CommonWell will not have access to or hold any clinical data.  CommonWell has a limited right to provide its services, [...]

New Members, New Gatherings and New Beginnings

2023-01-31T04:37:07-06:00

You may have noticed that we have been a bit quiet on our CommonWell Community blog lately. To be honest, things have been pretty exciting and busy. We have been bringing on new members, hosting our annual Fall Member Summit and finalizing our Commercial Services contract. Whew. I get tired just thinking about all we have been doing. Having been involved with the Alliance since its pre-formation days, it is a wonderful feeling for me to stop once a quarter and look back to see what we have accomplished. This past quarter is one of my favorite so far. After spending the prior twelve months focused on formation, technology and service launch, we opened the gates to broader membership in July (a place near and dear to my heart as [...]

Breaking Down Silos to Deliver One Vision, One Voice for Interoperability

2023-01-31T04:37:08-06:00

This week marks the 9th annual National Health Information Technology Week—a forum where the industry recognizes the collaborative efforts of all those dedicated to advancing our health care system through the use of information technology. CommonWell Health Alliance is a testament to what collaborative efforts can do to drive new approaches and innovations to solve one of our industry’s most challenging issues – interoperation. When we formed eighteen months ago, there were those who doubted that competitors could find common ground and agree to one vision. But today, more than a dozen vendors are succeeding not only to have one vision, but also to have one voice as we break down the barriers for interoperability in health care. In just 18 months, our shared vision and collective efforts have led [...]

CommonWell’s JASON Task Force testimony: A shared vision for a national “Robust Healthcare Architecture”

2023-01-31T04:37:08-06:00

On July 31, I delivered testimony to the JASON Task Force and posited that the CommonWell Health Alliance can fulfill the vision of a national “Robust Healthcare Architecture” as expounded upon in the JASON Report, discussed more below. By way of background, members of the JASON Task Force consists of a subset of the members of the HIT Standards Committee (HITSC) and HIT Policy Committee (HITPC), organized by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC), and aimed at synthesizing the feedback to the JASON Report. The JASON Report observed that health information exchange today is inadequate both in breadth of adoption and in usage towards the Triple Aim – better care, improved health of populations and lower per capita costs. The report strongly suggests that a new [...]

The Post-Acute Perspective: Ensuring Seamless Communication During Transition of Care

2023-01-31T04:37:09-06:00

Mounting industry pressures have placed interoperability at the forefront of healthcare executives’ minds, affecting the clinical, financial and operational perspective of each organization. And as the industry refocuses on interoperability across the care continuum, it is ever more critical to include the post-acute care industry within the bigger healthcare picture. Post-acute care providers are increasing their use of information technology to align more closely with acute care providers to enhance patient outcomes and reduce the cost of care. In fact, studies have shown that seamless communication during the transition between acute and post-acute care can lead to benefits such as less medication errors, reduced hospital readmissions and improved patient satisfaction. To represent the post-acute care industry’s commitment to quality patient care, Brightree is proud to join other CommonWell Health Alliance [...]

Celebrating a year of collaboration, achievements and innovations

2023-01-31T04:37:09-06:00

It hardly seems possible that it was 16 months ago when I stood on stage alongside the CEOs of athenahealth, Cerner, Greenway and McKesson to announce this industry-led endeavor for interoperability. As with many things, it seems like such a short time to have accomplished all that we have. The now nine members of the CommonWell Health Alliance really have made amazing progress since we announced at HIMSS in March 2013. We welcomed new founding members representing important healthcare segments such as lab (Sunquest) and rural/community/critical-access hospitals (CPSI). We welcomed new contributing members representing other critical segments such as pharmacy (CVS) and psychiatric/behavioral/LTAC (MedHost). We published services and use case specifications, launched services at 14 sites in four communities and enrolled more than 10,000 patients in the CommonWell database. And [...]
