CommonWell Health Alliance in early December 2018 will be issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a Service Provider for our interoperability infrastructure and services. We hosted a Bidder Call for organizations interested in learning more about the RFP on Nov. 16, 2018. A copy of the presentation shared on the Bidder Call can be found here. Download the CommonWell Health Alliance RFP Bidder Call PDF Communications and questions regarding the RFP will only be accepted through the Alliance’s RFP management process via the email inbox: RFP@maehc.org. Note: The email inbox will be open upon release of the RFP in early December and not before.
Often, it is when we take a step back and look at the big picture of the health care industry that we most clearly see the urgent need for true interoperability and can reaffirm the real value that CommonWell services are already bringing to providers and their patients. Last Tuesday, HIMSS provided us with such an opportunity in a webinar co-presented by our executive director, Jitin Asnaani, and Dr. Arthur Lauretano, Chief Medical Officer of Circle Health. For those who were unable to join the webinar entitled “Building Patient-Centered Data Exchange into the EHR,” Jitin shared the barriers hindering scalable, nationwide, vendor-neutral interoperability. In short, the situation is this: while patients typically expect that their providers have access to their previous health records before they receive care, in reality this [...]

As our Executive Director Jitin Asnaani said in our Summer Update back in June, CommonWell continues to rock and roll - both in terms of interoperability and in the news. During this past month, Jitin has shared his insights with Becker’s Hospital Review in a Q&A about the Alliance, the challenges of achieving true interoperability in healthcare and what the future might hold for Health IT. “As organizations and initiatives similar to CommonWell continue to drive forward services that more easily enable data exchange among disparate systems, we'll continue to get closer to a world in which nationwide interoperability is an everyday utility.… The future is bright, but the journey to get there is long and, at times, arduous. Success is critical to improving a provider's ability to deliver quality, person-centered [...]
PODCAST: Jitin Asnaani Featured by EHRIntelligence | Putting Health IT Interoperability into Action at CommonWellCommonWell2019-01-10T19:44:02+00:00
Take a listen to our Executive Director Jitin Asnaani’s podcast interview with Kyle Murphy of EHRIntelligence. In this podcast, Jitin discusses CommonWell commitment to person-centered care, progress to date and highlighted announcements such as API development and the use of the updated HL7® FHIR® specifications. The interview also expanded further on how CommonWell and its efforts coincide with other critical industry issues, including precision medicine, health IT policy (e.g., MIPS) and regional HIEs. “[CommonWell is] trying to solve a simple problem which is wherever a patient goes, their data from wherever they’ve been—within that hospital, within that community, within that region, anywhere within the US—should be available to those taking care of that patient at that time.” To listen to the podcast and view the interview transcript in its entirety, [...]
Check out our Executive Director Jitin Asnaani’s podcast interview with Dr. Steve Ambrose of Red Hot Healthcare. In the podcast, Asnaani discusses his passions inside and outside health care, his insights on patient empowerment and how CommonWell is aiming to change the industry for the common good. “The biggest uptake in CommonWell services—in terms of organizations joining CommonWell—has probably come from PHR and consumer facing market because of the demand from consumers to actually have a say and some control in their healthcare.” To listen to the whole podcast, visit https://redhothealthcare.com/interoperability/
In 2013, Cerner was one of seven companies that founded CommonWell Health Alliance. Today, Cerner, along with other CommonWell member companies, has helped bring more than 5,000 providers live on CommonWell services. Circle Health was one of the first acute facilities to take CommonWell services live via Cerner. Circle Health quickly identified that many ambulatory practices in their network had the eClinicalWorks EHR in their offices and its physicians and patient population could benefit if eClinicalWorks participated in CommonWell. In 2016, eClinicalWorks joined CommonWell as a contributing member and quickly moved to building CommonWell services into its EHR to advance affordable nationwide health data sharing. Earlier this year, Circle Health and eClinicalWorks piloted eClinicalWorks’ first connection to CommonWell, which was implemented at one of Circle Health’s employed practices, Primary Care [...]
Reposted with the permission of Beebe Healthcare. Original blog post can be found here. Beebe Healthcare hosted Dr. Vindell Washington, the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, on Thursday, January 12. Beebe Healthcare, along with our friends from Nanticoke Health Services in Seaford, demonstrated the pioneering work we have accomplished in the use of CommonWell. CommonWell allows for providers and hospitals to share health data across the country. During the visit, Dr. Washington met with members of the executive team and instrumental team members involved with CommonWell. Beebe Healthcare and Nanticoke provided live demonstrations of how CommonWell will revolutionize patient care. “In Sussex County, we see many patients who are going all over the country – whether they are snow birds or simply travel often. CommonWell will allow their data [...]
As CommonWell continues to expand the services and reach of its interoperability network, the concept of a real person at the heart of different representations of a patient’s healthcare across different systems remains core to CommonWell’s mission to create a vendor-neutral platform that breaks down the technological and process barriers that currently inhibit effective health data exchange. From the onset of discussions within the CommonWell Health Alliance there was a clear requirement to conceptually connect all the instances of care to meet the goal of providing a complete picture of an individual’s healthcare in a timely fashion wherever they received care. As the service provider for CommonWell, RelayHealth helped solidify these principles and built the core services around the fundamental concepts of a person, representing the holistic individual, and a [...]
Recently, CommonWell member representatives Scott Stuewe (Director of the Cerner Network at Cerner and co-chair of the CommonWell Utilization Committee) and Daniel Cane (CEO and co-founder at Modernizing Medicine) participated in a HealthcareScene Blab with John Lynn. During the live webinar, they shared an update on the progress of CommonWell Health Alliance and discussed the current state of interoperability in health care. [Tweet this] “#CommonWell is based on the mission that patient records should be available regardless of where a patient seeks care.” – @StueweScott Highlights from the Blab include: • CommonWell has more than 50 members that specialize in care settings across the health care continuum. Less than half of those members are EHR suppliers. • 4,700 provider sites live on CommonWell Services in 50 states, Washington, D.C. and [...]
