HIMSS Webinar – A Provider Perspective: CommonWell Helps Drive Better Value and Patient Experience

2023-01-31T04:33:01-06:00

Often, it is when we take a step back and look at the big picture of the health care industry that we most clearly see the urgent need for true interoperability and can reaffirm the real value that CommonWell services are already bringing to providers and their patients. Last Tuesday, HIMSS provided us with such an opportunity in a webinar co-presented by our executive director, Jitin Asnaani, and Dr. Arthur Lauretano, Chief Medical Officer of Circle Health. For those who were unable to join the webinar entitled “Building Patient-Centered Data Exchange into the EHR,” Jitin shared the barriers hindering scalable, nationwide, vendor-neutral interoperability. In short, the situation is this: while patients typically expect that their providers have access to their previous health records before they receive care, in reality this [...]

CommonWell in the News

2023-01-31T04:33:04-06:00

As our Executive Director Jitin Asnaani said in our Summer Update back in June, CommonWell continues to rock and roll - both in terms of interoperability and in the news. During this past month, Jitin has shared his insights with Becker’s Hospital Review in a Q&A about the Alliance, the challenges of achieving true interoperability in healthcare and what the future might hold for Health IT. “As organizations and initiatives similar to CommonWell continue to drive forward services that more easily enable data exchange among disparate systems, we'll continue to get closer to a world in which nationwide interoperability is an everyday utility.… The future is bright, but the journey to get there is long and, at times, arduous. Success is critical to improving a provider's ability to deliver quality, person-centered [...]

The interview also expanded further on how CommonWell and its efforts coincide with other critical industry issues, including precision medicine, health IT policy (e.g., MIPS) and regional HIEs. “[CommonWell is] trying to solve a simple problem which is wherever a patient goes, their data from wherever they’ve been—within that hospital, within that community, within that region, anywhere within the US—should be available to those taking care of that patient at that time.” To listen to the podcast and view the interview transcript in its entirety, [...]

Circle Health, Cerner and eClinicalWorks: Collaborating to Improve Patient Care

2023-01-31T04:35:18-06:00

In 2013, Cerner was one of seven companies that founded CommonWell Health Alliance. Today, Cerner, along with other CommonWell member companies, has helped bring more than 5,000 providers live on CommonWell services. Circle Health was one of the first acute facilities to take CommonWell services live via Cerner. Circle Health quickly identified that many ambulatory practices in their network had the eClinicalWorks EHR in their offices and its physicians and patient population could benefit if eClinicalWorks participated in CommonWell. In 2016, eClinicalWorks joined CommonWell as a contributing member and quickly moved to building CommonWell services into its EHR to advance affordable nationwide health data sharing. Earlier this year, Circle Health and eClinicalWorks piloted eClinicalWorks’ first connection to CommonWell, which was implemented at one of Circle Health’s employed practices, Primary Care [...]

During the visit, Dr. Washington met with members of the executive team and instrumental team members involved with CommonWell. Beebe Healthcare and Nanticoke provided live demonstrations of how CommonWell will revolutionize patient care. “In Sussex County, we see many patients who are going all over the country – whether they are snow birds or simply travel often. CommonWell will allow their data [...]
