CommonWell-Carequality Connection Now Generally Available!

Today, we at CommonWell are excited to share a milestone achievement along the path to solving for nationwide health IT interoperability: we announced the rollout of our connection to the Carequality Framework, which is now Generally Available to CommonWell members and will increase health IT connectivity nationwide. Not only do we anticipate that this increased connectivity will contribute to improvements in patient care coordination, delivery and outcomes, but we are already seeing it in action as our members and their initial pilot clients have taken the connection live and have since regularly exchanged health data. While families headed to the beaches, children caught fireflies and parents counted down the time until school was back in session, we at CommonWell have had a very productive summer. There are many updates we are excited to share via our blog in the coming weeks, but the most frequent question I receive is “how is the connection to Carequality going?”. And so, I thought I would provide this update first, answering that question with one word: Great! National Health IT Week is a time to reflect on the impact of health IT in the U.S. – on the system and the individuals we serve. What struck me about the role of HIT this year was the poignant plight of evacuees in the face of disaster. From wildfires in Montana and California to Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria throughout our southern states and territories, adversity forced thousands of Americans out of their homes and their communities. Summer Update from the CommonWell Executive Director

It’s hard to believe that 2017 is already almost half over. The CommonWell team –a dogged group of volunteers with unmatched passion and determination (for interoperability of all things!) – continues to lay ever-more-pipeline to facilitate health data exchange nationwide. Mark my words: being an open, collaborative, vendor-neutral organization is not easy. How I miss the corporate days when I had my own resources and could set my own priorities, and could more or less bring everyone else for the ride whenever I was ready to share what we’ve been up to. CommonWell and Carequality to Increase Health IT Connectivity Nationwide with New Collaborative Agreement

The belief that collaboration is a key part of success is not a new one, especially when it comes to achieving nationwide interoperability in healthcare. We have always been dedicated to working together across the industry to break down the barriers to interoperability, which is why we are excited to share CommonWell Health Alliance and Carequality are increasing nationwide health IT connectivity by providing additional health data sharing options to the over 15,000 hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare organizations actively deployed under the Carequality framework or CommonWell network. Since the inception of CommonWell, our focus has been to initiate real change and tangible value to the health care industry through our real-world interoperability services. Today, we have accomplished what many have not been able to–simplifying the process for connecting care for both providers and the people they serve. Our members began their nationwide deployment of CommonWell services in the fall of 2015 and I’ve had the opportunity to meet with many of their providers all over the country to hear about how our services are stacking up. Making it real

From the beginning, CommonWell Health Alliance has always been about doing something real. Serving real care givers; with the data they really need; to care for real people. That has always been, and continues to be, our goal. It humbles me to see the great amount of work our member companies are putting forth to further our shared mission. In the first half of this year, we tackled a big “boulder” in making national interoperability a reality, by recruiting a number of key HIT organizations into the Alliance.
