VIDEO: Jitin Asnaani Featured on Hospitals & Health Networks |The Time is Now for Interoperability of Electronic Health Records

2019-01-09T18:29:02+00:00

Check our Executive Director Jitin Asnaani’s video interview with Paul Barr of Hospitals & Health Networks from HIMSS16. In the video, Asnaani discusses progress made with regard to national deployment of CommonWell cross-vendor interoperability services both in numbers—4,400 sites live nationwide and growing weekly—and care settings—members announced in February plans to deploy to post-acute care setting. “It’s really our opening thrust of a long deployment cycle as we continue adding thousands more sites over the coming years. We started out this past year and really made a hard push, 4,400 sites is something to be very happy about, and we’re not done yet.” To watch the video and learn about the focus of CommonWell in our fourth year and beyond, visit HHNmag.com.

Last week, CommonWell hosted our annual Spring Summit with more 120 attendees representing the majority of our 49 members, including representatives from our 11 newest members. One of those members – Redox – participated in the three-date Summit. Niko Skievaski, co-founder and president of Redox, shared his perspective on Tincture about both his vision of tangible interoperability as well as his first month as part of the CommonWell family. We hope you will take a minute and read about it below. Drinking from the Commons By Niko Skievaski, co-founder and president of Redox Getting to Real-World Interoperability The “Tragedy of the Commons” describes how farmers sharing common land will over-utilize it until it is useless. It’s an economic fable that illustrates the necessity of property rights and is used as [...]

Brightree’s Commitment to bring Interoperability to the Post-Acute Market

2019-01-09T18:33:33+00:00

I’ve been known to make some bold statements as it relates to interoperable data, such as, if post-acute providers cannot share data bi-directionally in the near future with acute care and physician practice management systems, they will lose most if not all of their referral sources. Why so bold? Because it’s the truth! Now more than ever, post-acute care providers are expected to be interoperable.  Unfortunately, post-acute care-focused providers, like home health agencies and hospice organizations, continue to lag behind in interoperability. A little less than two years ago, Brightree joined the Alliance as the first solely post-acute focused software vendor. This endeavor was an investment Brightree made as an advocate for the needs of our customers who don’t traditionally have a large voice in interoperability circles. We worked with [...]

CommonWell Services Already Providing Value to Providers, Clinicians Nationwide

2019-01-09T18:34:12+00:00

Since the inception of CommonWell, our focus has been to initiate real change and tangible value to the health care industry through our real-world interoperability services. Today, we have accomplished what many have not been able to–simplifying the process for connecting care for both providers and the people they serve. Our members began their nationwide deployment of CommonWell services in the fall of 2015 and I’ve had the opportunity to meet with many of their providers all over the country to hear about how our services are stacking up. One of the requests I’ve heard time and time again was the need to know what other providers are using CommonWell services. While it seems like a simple request, its complexity lies in the fact that CommonWell doesn’t own this information; [...]

Making it real

2019-01-09T18:35:14+00:00

From the beginning, CommonWell Health Alliance has always been about doing something real. Serving real care givers; with the data they really need; to care for real people. That has always been, and continues to be, our goal. It humbles me to see the great amount of work our member companies are putting forth to further our shared mission. In the first half of this year, we tackled a big “boulder” in making national interoperability a reality, by recruiting a number of key HIT organizations into the Alliance. In fact over the course of 2015, our membership grew such that we now represent 70% of the acute care market place and roughly a quarter of the ambulatory marketplace, and a substantial presence in other care settings as well. While that [...]

CommonWell is Banking on Nationwide Interoperability

2019-01-09T18:36:05+00:00

Many health IT industry experts have compared the evolution of health care interoperability to the banking industry, particularly in regards to the ATM network. Did you know that it took more than 50 years for Universal ATM access to be established from the time the first ATM was invented in 1939? [1] Or that multivendor software was only running on 28 percent of ATMs worldwide in 2012? [2] If we dig deeper, we discover that one of the challenges merchants and banks faced as the ATM system started to take off in the late 1980’s was dealing with the multiple standards being used. Sound familiar? Just take a brief look at their 50-year journey to see what it took for us to be able to access our money from almost any ATM. 1939 [...]
