Every you time you visit your health care provider, you mostly likely are faced with the daunting task of recalling your medical history – from yesterday to birth, in some cases. You fill out paper forms. You lug medical records from office to office. Or perhaps you decide it is too much work and just don’t share your clinical history. All of which leaves much to be desired in terms of ensuring you receive the best care possible. For years, the HIT industry has been trying to solve for this. CommonWell has made great strides in helping your providers (and you!) access your medical records regardless of where that care occurred, who provided it or what software system they are on. Next week at HIMSS17 in Orlando, two CommonWell members [...]

Reposted with the permission of Beebe Healthcare. Original blog post can be found here. Beebe Healthcare hosted Dr. Vindell Washington, the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, on Thursday, January 12. Beebe Healthcare, along with our friends from Nanticoke Health Services in Seaford, demonstrated the pioneering work we have accomplished in the use of CommonWell. CommonWell allows for providers and hospitals to share health data across the country. During the visit, Dr. Washington met with members of the executive team and instrumental team members involved with CommonWell. Beebe Healthcare and Nanticoke provided live demonstrations of how CommonWell will revolutionize patient care. “In Sussex County, we see many patients who are going all over the country – whether they are snow birds or simply travel often. CommonWell will allow their data [...]
CommonWell and Carequality to Increase Health IT Connectivity Nationwide with New Collaborative AgreementCommonWell2019-01-09T18:25:10+00:00
The belief that collaboration is a key part of success is not a new one, especially when it comes to achieving nationwide interoperability in healthcare. We have always been dedicated to working together across the industry to break down the barriers to interoperability, which is why we are excited to share CommonWell Health Alliance and Carequality are increasing nationwide health IT connectivity by providing additional health data sharing options to the over 15,000 hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare organizations actively deployed under the Carequality framework or CommonWell network. The agreement outlines three objectives: CommonWell will become a Carequality implementer on behalf of its members and their clients, enabling CommonWell subscribers to engage in health information exchange through directed queries with any Carequality participant. Carequality will work with CommonWell to make [...]
As CommonWell continues to expand the services and reach of its interoperability network, the concept of a real person at the heart of different representations of a patient’s healthcare across different systems remains core to CommonWell’s mission to create a vendor-neutral platform that breaks down the technological and process barriers that currently inhibit effective health data exchange. From the onset of discussions within the CommonWell Health Alliance there was a clear requirement to conceptually connect all the instances of care to meet the goal of providing a complete picture of an individual’s healthcare in a timely fashion wherever they received care. As the service provider for CommonWell, RelayHealth helped solidify these principles and built the core services around the fundamental concepts of a person, representing the holistic individual, and a [...]
Healthcare Leaders Convene at 2016 Annual General Meeting and Fall Summit to Discuss Strategies for Expanding CommonWellCommonWell2019-01-09T18:26:28+00:00
Healthcare vendors and organizations came together at the 2016 CommonWell Health Alliance Annual General Meeting and Fall Summit Oct. 5-7 to continue the discussion on “interoperability for the common good.” For the second year in a row, MEDITECH was proud to host the event in our state-of-the-art Joanne Wood Conference Center and Auditorium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The event commenced with opening remarks and a year in review report from Jitin Asnaani, Executive Director of CommonWell. While last year’s meeting focused on deployment strategies, it’s evident the Alliance is growing and making strides in the industry as healthcare organizations recognize the value the network brings to providers and patients. Many member organizations are turning CommonWell’s concepts into a reality, with thousands of LIVE sites now utilizing the CommonWell network. With the [...]
It is one of my favorite times of year. Football is in full force, the cooler Fall weather is upon us, and some of my favorite people are coming together for the Fall CommonWell Summit and Annual Meeting in Boston this week. Today, we welcome five new members to the Alliance, as we kick off our Summit at the New Member Welcome Meeting. It is hard to believe that this time last year we had 33 members and now we are just shy of 60 members and counting. Please join me in welcoming our newest members, who represent the diverse spectrum of our health care industry. CommonWell truly is an organization well positioned to improve the exchange of health data across the broad continuum of care. DocuTAP DocuTAP serves more [...]
From the beginning, CommonWell has been dedicated to a simple but crucial vision and underlying belief that health data should be available to individuals and providers regardless of where care occurs. After all, how many times have you arrived at a doctor’s appointment, only to have a clipboard handed to you to fill out your entire medical history, emergency contact information and information about other specialists you have seen? It has probably happened more than a few times, and with each handoff of the clipboard, you likely longed for a better way or wondered how it would all get taken care of in the event that you couldn’t fill out those forms yourself. At CommonWell, we believe that health data, regardless of where treatment occurs, should be available at your [...]

Recently, CommonWell member representatives Scott Stuewe (Director of the Cerner Network at Cerner and co-chair of the CommonWell Utilization Committee) and Daniel Cane (CEO and co-founder at Modernizing Medicine) participated in a HealthcareScene Blab with John Lynn. During the live webinar, they shared an update on the progress of CommonWell Health Alliance and discussed the current state of interoperability in health care. [Tweet this] “#CommonWell is based on the mission that patient records should be available regardless of where a patient seeks care.” – @StueweScott Highlights from the Blab include: • CommonWell has more than 50 members that specialize in care settings across the health care continuum. VIDEO: Jitin Asnaani Featured on Hospitals & Health Networks |The Time is Now for Interoperability of Electronic Health RecordsCommonWell2019-01-09T18:29:02+00:00
Check our Executive Director Jitin Asnaani’s video interview with Paul Barr of Hospitals & Health Networks from HIMSS16. In the video, Asnaani discusses progress made with regard to national deployment of CommonWell cross-vendor interoperability services both in numbers—4,400 sites live nationwide and growing weekly—and care settings—members announced in February plans to deploy to post-acute care setting. “It’s really our opening thrust of a long deployment cycle as we continue adding thousands more sites over the coming years. We started out this past year and really made a hard push, 4,400 sites is something to be very happy about, and we’re not done yet.” To watch the video and learn about the focus of CommonWell in our fourth year and beyond, visit HHNmag.com.
