April 22, 2013—To help advance interoperability and health information exchange of health care data, the founding members of the CommonWell Health Alliance submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, reinforcing their commitment to collaborate with health IT suppliers and leverage existing standards and supplement only where needed. We emphasized the importance of creating an open forum for secure patient data exchange and removing data access barriers. We also stressed the importance for alignment and consistency between programs and standards such as privacy and security; Meaningful Use; Medicare Shared Saving Program and Patient-Centered Medical Homes. By coordinating efforts to improve interoperability and overall delivery of health care, the Alliance’s mission and vision reflect a belief the industry can achieve the triple aim – better care, better population health and reduced cost of health care.
